ASTM sets strictest safety standards
There is one area where products
must meet very strict safety criteria: children's art
and creative materials. A U.S. Federal Testing Standard,
ASTM D-4236, sets the safety requirements for these
products to protect the very young children who use
them.
When children use art and creative
products, they might
paint their bodies
with the
materials, try to eat them or stick a crayon in another
child’s eye. The ASTM D-4236 standard was created to
measure a product’s toxicity and danger to children.
A not-for-profit organization, the
Art & Creative Materials Institute
(ACMI),
developed a testing and certification program in
cooperation with toxicologists at Duke University. |

ACMI awards Zero-Tox its AP Seal
Independent laboratory
testing at Duke University proves
that Zero-Tox conforms
to ACMI’s stringent safety
standards.
The AP, or Approved Product, seal
“identifies art materials that are
safe and that are certified in a
toxicological evaluation by a
medical expert to contain no
materials in sufficient
quantities to be toxic or injurious
to humans,
including children, or
to cause
acute or chronic health
problems.
“Such products
are certified by ACMI to be labeled
in accordance with the chronic
hazard labeling standard, ASTM
[American Society for Testing and
Materials] D-4236, and the U.S.
Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials
Act (CHAMA).”

Zero-Tox conforms to California
Clean Air
Rule 1171 and 1122
California
has some of the most rigid clean-air
standards in the U.S. The state has
designed a number of Clean Air Rules
to help control VOCs (volatile
organic compounds) in the
environment.
The California Rule 1171 and Rule 1122 control VOC emissions from
numerous uses of solvents in
industrial, commercial, and general
purpose cleaning and degreasing
activities.
The good news is Zero-Tox has been accepted into the Clean Air
Solvent Certification Program, a designation that
says we’re doing our part to help
the environment.
Zero-Tox
contains no ingredients that would
contribute to greenhouse gas
emissions and deplete the ozone
California
South Coast Air Quality Management
District (AMQD) reported that
amendments to Rule 1171 and Rule
1122 lowered the VOC content limits
of solvents in several usage
categories.
The amendments required that
“cleaning materials used in repair
and maintenance operations and cold
cleaners, respectively, to contain
no more than 25 grams of VOC per
liter of cleaning solvent as
applied.”
The report goes on to state “...most
common and effective cleaners that
meet this criteria are water-based
or aqueous cleaners that contain
little or no VOCs, although other
options such as VOC exempt compounds
are also available
to the user.”
Another good reason to choose Zero-Tox,
a water-based cleaner.
Zero-Tox is safe
for the unborn, in compliance with
California’s Proposition 65
California has a reputation for
environmental laws that are
the most
stringent in the nation.
According to the Office of
Environmental Health Hazard
Assessment, California’s Proposition
65, the
Safe Drinking Water and
Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986,
“was enacted …
to protect
California citizens and the state's
drinking water sources from
chemicals known to cause cancer,
birth defects or other reproductive
harm, and to inform citizens about
exposures to such chemicals.
”More good
news for Zero-Tox users. Independent
laboratory testing proves that Zero-Tox
is non-feto-toxic (not toxic to the
unborn), in compliance with
Proposition 65.
Rest assured, this product is safe
for use around pregnant women and
their unborn babies. |
